Southampton Marine Services partners with Shoreham Port to expand dry dock facilities

Southampton Marine Services has partnered with Shoreham Port to offer ship repair and dry docking services at the bustling south coast UK Port.

In a move that expands Southampton Marine Services’ dry dock capabilities the new partnership will provide vessel owners and operators with greater options for docking deeper draft vessels at an English Channel port.

Shoreham has one of the few remaining dry dock facilities on the South Coast of England. The Adur Dry Dock was established in the 1930s and has seen new investment by Shoreham Port.

At 50.5m x 8.5m x 5.2m the Adur dry dock has accommodated square rigged sailing vessels, yachts, trawlers, tugs, workboats and small ferries.

Over recent years, through considerable investment by Shoreham Port, excellent progress has been made in the operational throughput, efficiency and service provided by the dock. Dock draining time has been shortened to approximately three hours and flooding time to about two hours, maximising the time available for work on the dock floor.

Speaking of the expansion to Southampton Marine Services’ facilities Managing Director Chris Norman says, “We share many common aims with Shoreham Port, including the expansion of ship repair services on the south coast. With the port’s valuable dock asset and our own strong client base this new partnership will not only build on Southampton Marine Services’ docking capabilities, but also bolster Shoreham’s credibility as a ship repair port.”

Tony Parker, Shoreham Port’s Director of Engineering, said: “The port is pleased to welcome Southampton Marine Services as our new dry dock partner.

Their standing in the ship repair and construction industry aligns perfectly with our aim to deliver ship repair excellence here in Shoreham and we look forward to working with them in building the credibility and customer base of the Adur Dry Dock.”
