For more information about JW Every day, bodies of water around the globe are used for recreational purposes, to supply food and drinking water to the growing population, to help stock our natural resource supplies, and to provide a natural habitat for marine life. Sometimes these very same “friendly” waters take valued possessions from people or are used to discard evidence from a crime scene. JW Fishers has been manufacturing hand held, underwater metal detectors for over 40 years and has been the equipment of choice for both law enforcement agencies and treasure hunters worldwide. The #1 rated Pulse 8X has been manufactured for over 25 years and is the “go to” tool when things go missing
Engineers and designers working on power transmission applications can often face a daunting task when it comes to specifying the most appropriate drive coupling for the task in hand. Detailed consideration must be given to both sides of the drive equation, input and output, with regard to torque, shock loads, starting frequency, temperature and environmental conditions, but where to begin. In this informative article, David Proud, General Manager of Reich Drive Systems UK explains how to navigate through what can sometimes be seen as a technical minefield for designers and engineers. Drive couplings vary greatly in their design and capabilities, so for any given application engineers must e
The award-winning Cygnus MK5 surface thickness gauges developed by Cygnus Instruments, the leading manufacturer of digital ultrasonic thickness gauges, offers a simple solution for measuring metals with extreme corrosion or back wall pitting while having the ability to measure through coatings up to 20 mm thick. All Cygnus gauges employ the Cygnus-pioneered Multiple-Echo technique to measure metal thickness without removing coatings while the inherent error-check algorithm ensures accurate and repeatable readings.
Versatile Multi-Measuring Modes
The PLUS models are equipped with Single-Echo and Echo-Echo measuring modes. Using twin crystal probes, both modes can assist in obtaining measure
This quick and easy replacement solution saves you time and money! What do you do when one of the most versatile and reliable flexible couplings reaches the end of its working life and you need to fit a replacement? Quickly. As part of the CENTAFLEX-A range, the CENTAFLEX-AR is designed for use on ‘O’ type couplings size 25 – 600, enabling engineers to replace that worn out CF-A coupling quickly and easily. Without the need to strip the drive. Whilst the CENTAFLEX-AR is a single-piece coupling with exactly the same vibration and noise eliminating attributes as the conventional CF-A, there is one critical difference. The CF-AR is split at one point. This means that it can be installed around
PowerTech 4045SFM85 expands marine engine offerings John Deere Power Systems has introduced the new 4045SFM85 marine engine to its powerful, reliable marine engine offerings. The new PowerTech 4045SFM85 has two ratings for light-duty commercial vessels, high-speed governmental applications and high-speed pleasure craft, which includes an M4 rating with 205 kW (275 hp) at 2600 rpm and M5 rating with 235 kW (315 hp) at 2800 rpm. The PowerTech 4.5L engine ratings join the existing lineup of John Deere Marine Tier 3 propulsion engines. The 4045SFM
One of the major hazards associated with working in maintenance shipyards is the impact of poor air quality. Those working in confined spaces may be subject to stagnant air as a result of insufficient airflow or toxic and hazardous contaminants as a result of source pollutants. Ventilation is required to ensure the correct level of oxygen needed to dilute and remove contaminants such as CO2 and hydrogen sulphide, in addition to comfort cooling or heating. In general, there are two common methods of shipyard ventilation; Dilution Ventilation and Local exhaust ventilation. Dilution ventilation can be used to reduce concentrations of flammable and toxic fumes, vapours, or particulates while mai

Jenkins Marine’s multi-cat vessel AVON was chartered by ship repair specialists Burgess Marine to facilitate replacement of a lost anchor. The 180m long oil product tanker ‘Topaz Express’ had lost an anchor during routine operations and contacted Burgess Marine to arrange repair. The ship was en-route from the West African coast to Southampton and a special stopover in Portland Harbour was arranged to complete the work. A new 6.85t anchor was delivered to Portland Port where AVON’s powerful 120tm Effer deck crane was able to lift the anchor from the delivery vehicle on to deck, together with the maintenance operatives. AVON was then positioned against the bow of the ship using her twin push

Introduction Lifting and lowering of loads in subsea operations is one of the most common tasks required in the whole life cycle of an offshore oil and gas field. During the drilling, field development, and production phases, everything used and deployed underwater needs to be transported, handled, installed, and - when required - removed for maintenance, repair, and replacement. Equipment and tools need to be carried down to the seabed and lifted back to the surface when the work is done. All this requires the use of reliable and safe rigging equipment, such as slings, hooks, and lifting attachments (shackles, eyebolts, pad eyes, etc.). Normally a hook provides the immediate connection betw
